There’s a lot of great hockey content on the web today. However, we’ve noticed there’s an abundance of similar material. Enter, Icetistics. A site dedicated to the advancement of novel hockey analytics, predictive analyses, and quite possiby the most important, validations of these analyses.
We are currently in the developmental stage of building our analytics and site. A majority of our site consists of background information, overviews of our approaches and algorithms, and exploratory analyses. As you can see from the figure below, we plan to grow our site into something a bit more encompassing over time.
As we move forward, we’ll be focusing on validations of different items, such as rankings and projections. There’s an abundance of sports analytics sites that do a great job of providing predictions, but these projections are rarely validated. Questions like ‘How good are these predictions?’ or ‘How good are these new stats in identifying outcomes?’ are never visited. We’re living in a new era, a forecasting revolution that touches on much more than just descriptive statistics. These are not enough in today’s world.
One of the main goals of our site will will be to validate the accuracy of our predictions post said predicted event. This is almost unheard of in the sports analytics world. We hope that our site becomes a ‘go-to’ spot for sports nerds, data geeks, daily fantasy sports players, and anyone who has a genuine love for the sport of hockey.
